The first Liuligongfang North America flagship opened its doors March 7, 2008 in San Francisco 
on Yerba Buena Lane between the Marriot and Four Seasons Hotels.Chang Yi and Loretta Huishan 
Yang hosted the grand opening reception and were on hand to receive guests.

Not only is this a highlight in Liuligongfang history, it is for co-founder Chang Yi the most critical 
personal milestone in his time with the company.

When Liuligongfang decided to use the phonetic interpretation of its Chinese name in1987, 
Chang Yi could already predict the challenges ahead. Would the culturally laden name polarize 
or alienate those who did not understand Chinese? In using “Liuli”, an archaic Chinese term,
instead of “crystal” or “glass” and “gongfang” instead of “workshop” or “studio”, 
it subconsciously set the foundation for a culturally and historically rooted company.
